The Gärkammer already announces its serious intentions with a hue that is deeper than that of its stable mates. Shades of plum and cherry are accompanied by a purple rim. As in previous vintages, the Grosses Gewächs from this tiny site, in the sole ownership of the brothers Adeneuer, exhibits just that little more intensity of fragrance and concentration of flavour, still focused on the cherry theme, but with the additional highlights of fine spices and a firm minerally backbone. Toasted to perfection, the 2011 once again leads me to believe that at the estate the role of oak is increasingly being interpreted as the icing on the cake, no longer part of the cake itself.
