I have both... depends one what u r taking... with normal situation... not much different... comparing with same level of equipment....
not focusing speed of N5 vs 5D...
ISO and Speed... canon have some advantage...
but 900 or 850 with ZA lens... color is really special... and nice...
also for the sony moving head flash...
for normal situation... actually not much different...
for body build... i haven't try sony... but 24-70 2.8 not water resistant for ZA... but for L... it is... i had went to mountain with my 5d to 24-70 and met a snow storm... my 5d still work fine... i am not sure about 850...

I believe both of them without great difference now. But i believe Sony will move faster than Canon. DSLR is a electronic and digital in mainly part of it. I will step in to Sony.

For Canon I've got a 5DII and a 7D.
For Sony I have A850, A700, A550, A33, Nex 5 (and upcoming A77). I went for Sony mainly for their Zeiss lenses.
Honestly I can't make up my mind which one is better.

Well...for more lens and accessories, Canon is still a better choice. But for more 'innovative' and potential...I'll go for Sony, I believe that Sony will catch up with canon and Nikon soon. And I'm using Sony now :)

for me start from 500d->60->1dm->a850->a550->now 300d and a580, and looking for power shoot g2, and g9 so what do u think whick batter?
500d too toy, 60d good and fast but almost same pq to 500d, 1dm2 very very fast but heavy but fast focus, a850 slow but good pq and heavy too, a550 fast light but no moive, a580 fast light weight withhd moive but no af moive, 300d silver specail colour for body and pq like a film feeling,,,,,,,,

sony use cheap minolta lens have good pq, canon use expensive L lens have good pq,
canon = Pro
sony = Hi-TEAC
